3 In-Office Skin Treatments That Can Help You Turn Back the Clock

Skin Treatment
Whether you are just noticing the first signs of aging on your face or have been battling deeper wrinkles and skin laxity for years, you may wonder what you can do to improve the appearance of your skin to look and feel younger again.

Of course, a good at-home skincare routine can help you fight the signs of aging. However, if you feel you need a more in-depth treatment to supplement your normal routine, then it is important to know that there are many skincare treatments available. Read on to learn about three in-office skin treatments that can help you visually turn back the clock.

1. Chemical Peels

There are many types of chemical peels, and they all remove the outermost layer of dead facial skin to reveal younger, more youthful skin underneath. However, they all differ slightly in composition and function. Your dermatologist may recommend one of the following chemical peels based on your skin needs and goals.

Glycolic Acid Peel

You may have used at-home products containing glycolic acid, but glycolic acid peels are much stronger. They work to remove the top surface layer of dead skin and stimulate your skin to produce new collagen. Regular glycolic acid peels can improve the look of fine lines and wrinkles and firm your skin.

Salicylic Acid Peel

If you struggle with fine lines, wrinkles and adult acne, then a salicylic acid peel is a great solution for you. Unlike glycolic acid, salicylic acid can penetrate deep into your skin's pores to remove stubborn clogs, which can help prevent future blemishes from forming. Additionally, salicylic acid also has an antiinflammatory effect that can help reduce redness and inflammation in existing blemishes.

TCA Peel

A TCA, trichloroacetic acid, peel penetrates more deeply into your skin, which makes it a good option for removing sun-damaged skin, reducing the appearance of deeper wrinkles and eliminating stubborn skin pigmentation problems.

3. Ablative Laser Resurfacing

Another way to improve the appearance of your aging skin is to obtain ablative laser resurfacing. Ablative lasers vaporize the outer layers of the skin to remove sun-damaged skin and stimulate your skin's natural healing process. Your sun-damaged skin is then replaced with healthier skin.

Laser resurfacing can help remove stubborn pigmentation and eliminate the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles. This procedure also stimulates collagen production in your skin to reduce skin laxity.

You can choose to have ablative laser resurfacing performed on specific problem areas or on your entire face. While there is a little downtime after this in-depth, high-tech anti-aging treatment, many people feel that the necessary downtime is typically well worth it. The results of this procedure can last from one to five years.

2. Microneedling

Another great in-office anti-aging treatment is microneedling. This treatment involves running a roller covered in many tiny needles over your skin to stimulate the production of new collagen and elastin.

As you age, collagen and elastin production in your skin decline, and stimulating new collagen can help smooth the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles and reduce skin sagging. Microneedling treatments can also help eliminate skin pigmentation and improve the appearance of both atrophic and hypertrophic scars, such as acne scarring.

Don't worry that microneedling will feel painful. You will experience either no pain or very little discomfort t- depending on the needle length your dermatologist chooses to treat your specific skin issues. Unlike chemical peels that produce visible anti-aging results immediately, it typically takes a series of several microneedling treatments to see results.
